Report Card Earth :

An abundance of life, animals and plants alike.magnificent lifeforms in all areas of the earth, a diversity rarely found on other planets. There are other earths out there, but the abundance we find here is few and far between. However, there is a serious threat to all this.

An abundance of species in magnificent diversities everywhere you look. Most of them fit in well within the interwoven fabric of lifeforms and environment except for one : Humans!

So what is the problem with humans and why ?

To understand this, lets first have a look at the human evolution until today.
If the earth is one day old,the Dinosaurs died out about 15 min ago and humans have only been around for 1.5 minutes or so and all of human history happened within the last second or so.That alone explains a lot.

The first large evolutionary step was from hunter gatherer to farmer. That involved a huge change in thinking from adapting to your environment to adapting your environment to you.It also involved forward thinking and planning to a previously unheard of extent.
Climate change was at least one of the reasons for this. People don’t change their habits for no reason and changes in the environment always lead to changes in human behaviour. We are strongly interactive with our environment, if we like it or not, for the good or bad.More on this later.
After farming came skill specialisation which produced manufacturers and traders and lead to the formation of cities and long distance trade.
However, all this time the social structure did not change that much, the 3 generation family and the tribe or clan supplied all the safety net that was required. If somebody got sick or incapacitated the family was there to help.

All this changed in the western world with the industrial revolution. It broke up the social structure, the natural safety net of the 3 generation family and also lead to WWI which got rid of the feudal power structure in a lot of places,to be replaced with a proletarian power structure (Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini etc)which consequently got washed away in most western countries by WWII.
And since the sixties it has produced a consumer society in most western countries with previously unheard of personal opportunities, wealth and freedoms. And it lead to a big change in thinking, from feudal or dictatorial to relatively democratical in most western countries. It was a big step in human evolution.
The price for this was the blood sweat tears and lives of maybe 150 million people worldwide.
Many 2nd and 3rd world countries are embarking on the same journey today, however
they don’t seem to learn from the pitfalls and mistakes the Europeans made. He who doesn’t learn from history will have to repeat it !!!

and there is a lot of room for improvement in a lot of countries!!

So now let’s get to some global issues and trouble spots on earth and look at the reasons for this as well as the solution and/or the outcome.

Climate change :
About 600 million years ago the whole earth was a frozen ice ball with a bit of slime living in some places. Volcanoes transformed it into the earth as we know it today.
Nature is dynamic, the only constant is change.Static is a human invention.Ice ages came and went and not because caveman put a log to many on the fire.
However, since about 50 years the side effects of the industrialisation are showing up in our environment to some extent.
Our atmosphere consists of 78% nitrogen,20% oxygen and 2% various gases including CO2. Anything green that photosynthesis needs CO2. Oxygen is actually a byproduct of photosynthesis. Yes, originally there was no Oxygen in the atmosphere, it was created by algae and later plants on the land.So by having only 2% CO2 left, its amazing there are any pl;ants left on the planet.
However, burning fossil fuels and industrial pollution is a major problem. (there are no clear skies over Chinese cities) Air pollution traps and diffuses light which leads to temperature changes and with that can lead to changes in rainfall patterns etc. Pollution of watercourses and the oceans have an impact on the environment. All these are factors in climate change.
The trouble is even if we stop polluting now,the climate will keep changing for natural and manmade reasons.
The other problem is the biggest polluters on the planet are China,India and the ex soviet-block, neither of whom is likely to change their ways in the near future for political and economic reasons.(there is no complaints committee in those places )
Climate change and the resulting change in rainfall patterns can be and is a factor for armed conflicts so we should deal with as far as we can. But its important to dig down to find the real reason for the manmade part of climate change : greed in one way or another. More on that under solutions and outcome.

Now let’s go to the current big trouble spots and let’s have a good look at them.

The bottom line here is that Putin wants to resurrect the former Soviet-Empire.Most of the Russians in the Ukraine were put there by Stalin or his successors. Its like the Sudetenland in Tschechoslowakia, there was a lot of Germans living there so Hitler annexed it.Nobody stopped him so it snowballed into WWII.
Putin is doing the same thing. The West trying to put pressure on Putin by pushing down the oil price and sanctions. However Putin doesn’t care about his own people, only his own ambitions. The undercurrent here is one of a superpower confrontation, a dangerous game.Putin wants war but the Europeans learned from history and are using sanctions. The best solution would be if the Russians would get rid of Putin themselves and so pave the way to rejoin some of the Wests prosperity through trade. The real reason for this conflict is greed for power by Putin.

The Syria Conflict is now in its 4th year and shows no sign of abating, vice versa, things are getting worse by the day.One of the original factors was a drought in Syria which was badly handled. Other factors were the Arab Spring, some animosity with Turkey and the problems in Iraq.
The rise of ISIS added a whole new dimension to this conflict.
Other factors are that Russia traditionally supports the Assad regime,Turkey is somewhat sympathetic to the IS and has a pretty porous border with Syria for IS but not for Kurds who want to fight the IS.
The Kurds are probably the best bet against the IS militarily on the ground.
However with the IS the conflict has a distinct Sunny-Shiite and non Sunny flavour. This will certainly test a lot of alliances in the arab world. If they (the IS ) like they are planning to do, will march on Israel, its WWIII.
The western engagement against the IS as well as cautious support of some Assad opponents and the Russian support of the Assad regime as well as divided loyalties in the Arab world are certainly all the ingredients you need for a real big mess, again with an undercurrent of a superpower conflict. Again the bottom line for all this destruction is greed for power .

This is the 3rd big trouble spot in the world and still on the back-burner, but not for long.

China is militarising the China Sea, and they are not even coy about it. They are pushing up reefs to form platforms for military bases, fighter runways and naval ports. They say it will be finished in about 2 years time.
They are involved in territorial disputes with all their neighbours :Philipines, South Korea, Japan, Vietnam and Taiwan.
It’s all about resources, mainly oil, and strategic footholds.A few months ago they towed a second oil drilling rig into a disputed area off Vietnam. Subsequently the Vietnamese people smashed up all the chinese businesses they could find and the next day thousands of chinese left Vietnam.

In the Philipines a lone Philipines ship is anchored on a reef they are claiming, surrounded by chinese warships like sharks.
There are regular cat and mouse games between the Vietnamese and chinese navy of Vietnam.
Japan has a claim to the Shinkaku Islands which are also claimed by China who declared an air identification zone over them, so any planes trespassing will have to report to China.the reason ? there is oil in the area.

Now the US told Japan if it comes to blows with China they will support Japan militarily.Chances are the Chinese will put that to the test in 2 years time.
When their Basis are finished and their armed forces built up sufficiently they will take the naval superiority of America, at least in the Pacific.

You see, by that time approx. 2 years from now,the middle east will have developed into a really nasty place as well as the Ukraine if the Russians don’t get rid of Putin.
And the American engagement in the Ukraine and the middle east will probably not allow them to come to Japans aid militarily. It will spell the end of America as the old superpower and the rise of China in its place.

And what will happen to Australia ? It will become the spoils of war for China. Right now China is watching the middle east and the Ukraine and when the time is right make their own move in the China Sea.
Without american support Australia will wind up a chinese colony in a few years time. They already own 35% of it and buying more every day. They don’t have to fire a single shot, just use their economical musscle. If they stop buying our resources now,the lights will go out in Australia in 3 months time.
Our economical dependency on China is 90%. The reason : short-term greed and no long-term planning.

So what should we do ?
Go with the EU economically. Right now sell them resources so they lose their dependency on Russia and we ours on China.
Long term :get Europeans to take over our car industry, but don’t throw money at them , just give them favorable conditions. Get western mining companies in here and get them to build steel production facilities etc.
It worked in Canada, it will work here. the alternative is to become a chinese province like Xingjang province north of Tibet that was flooded with Han-Cinese by Mao to displace and sideline the Wigas, the original inhabitants. It would mean going back to the 17th century and becoming slaves in our own country.
China’s behaviour in the China Sea is governed by greed for power and resources.

So now let’s have a look at the reasons for all these three biggest trouble spots in the world as well as climate change.

The bottom line for climate change is ignorance and above all greed. its cheaper to dump your poison in nature than deal with it properly.

In the Ukraine it’s mainly Putin’s greed for power as well as a grab for Ukraine resources that are substantially in the east of the country.Putin is a throwback to the dark ages in Russia that looked like they were finished by Gorbachev.Obviously not quite so.

In the middle east we got a few factors combining to a pretty nasty broth. There was a drought on in Syria which was badly managed, the Arab spring is another reason.Every manmade structure, that includes empires and power structures, has its time. The Arabs had a pretty static, basically dictatorial form of government for a long time and its time is up.But the result will be a period of transition with a lot of turmoil before a new structure establishes itself.
The next factor is again a historical cycle: every church takes approx.1400 years to get to its peak. For the Christians that was the crusades and the spanish inquisition, which was a political tool to get the jews out of Spain.
Mohammed lived in the year 600 AD.Its their time now.Like in the middle ages for the christians, the church becomes the state for them.Hence the Mullahs in Iran and the IS.
Of course the religion is a cover for greed for power but a convenient and very familiar one .
You add foreign support for combatants from Russia, some Arab nations and now western engagement, as well as instability and weakness in neighbouring countries (Iraq)and you have a pretty toxic mix.

The trouble in the China Sea is straight forward :China is colonising the world today ,its greedy for power and resources and just opportunistically waiting for the right moment to make a major move at least in the Pacific.

There is another historic cycle that is a factor in this:
We are in a transitional time between two ages, pices and aquarius, but before the new can take hold the old has to go.And that means letting go of old structures and above all old ways of thinking. Trouble is, the old power structures don’t go voluntarily.Hence the Arab Spring, Syria and the problem with Putin and the Chinese.
Since 2004 the tectonic plates are moving under our feet. The Indonesian tsunami, the japanese tsunami as well as countless strong earthquakes are the result. This happens every few thousand years, 9000 BC was one of those times.
Events in nature are reflected in events amongst people. So now our foundations that is our manmade power structures and ways of thinking are being torn apart.

So whats the solution ?
Remember the GFC in 2008 ? unbridled greed was the main reason for this. It caused untold misery and hardship. We cannot afford to think like this in the long run anymore. Our economies are built on the expansion and profit principle. That will be overruled and replaced by sustainability and self sufficiency. Greed will be replaced by mindful thinking,i.e consideration of others and the environment.A company has to be in the black, but after that job creation and job security are the main goals, not profits. The beginning of those changes have already been made, mainly in the West, and they look promising. The old ways are just not sustainable anymore, far to destructive and expensive in the long run.

There is another aspect to our wold economy : dwindeling resources.yes, some resources seem to run out and it seems to become difficult to keep the status quo
in some places.Quantum physics will enable us to make up for some of this by solving energy and material problems as well as providing energy solutions in the near future. And within 10 years we will discover new rersources in places we don’t even know exist right now. All the mayor fault zones on earth are prolific providers of minerals, metals, and other resources. An educated guess is east Africa with its mayor fault zone will get some serious attention. However the biggest problem is still the existing powerstructures and the unwillingness to change.Nature is dynamic, the dinosaurs died out because they couldn’t adapt to changed circumstances. It is evolve or become extinct, that simple.

So whats required is a fundamental shift and change in thinking that changes the way we run our economy and interact with other people and the environment.
This is part of the next large evolutionary step for mankind, the realisation we learned from quantum physics and ancient eastern philosophies, that everything is interconnected and interactive:people, the environment, life support system, the whole planet and beyond. This will certainly change the way we will act in the future.
The beginning of this has already been made in some parts of the world, sustainability is gaining in importance and mindful thinking is a growing trend because it actually increases productivity by improving the workplace climate as well as sustainability.

So what will happen to those trouble spots ? As we have seen the main reason for them is greed for power, the old way of thinking.

The problem of manmade pollution and fossil fuels will be addressed, in some places more than others. But climate change is here to stay.We will have to learn to live with it.

Unless Putin is removed from power it will get realy nasty, because he will not change his thinking voluntarily. The West Europeans have learned their lessons from the last 100 years but not Putin. So only after his demise will there be a chance for Russia to move forward.

Its a big mess and getting bigger. There is no big chance for a change of thinking and change of guard. The positions are to entrenched and extreme. Chances are most of the middle east winds up in ruins, maybe WWIII
The mentality is a long way behind the West, greed for power is firmly entrenched and no change in the foreseeable future. They have a long and difficult way to go yet.

China is industrialising and the next superpower on earth. However, mentally they are Genghis Khans’ troops, their thinking hasn’t changed in 800 years. They are in the middle ages at best,a dictatorial governmental structure combined with hi-tech surveillance.A nasty mix. However the seeds of discontent have been sown in Hongkong and will hopefully spread to the mainland.China is an internal powder keg because of social tensions brought on by economical disparities and injustices like land resumption .This makes them even more dangerous to the outside world.
Don’t expect a change in thinking anytime soon.vice versa, expect ruthless external behaviour as soon as they see their chance.

The way to deal with bullies like Putin and China is : isolate and exclude the ones who cannot be changed ,economically, politically, socially and any other way.The least interaction possible.Treat them for what they are : the lepers and curse of a civilized world.

The earth is a magnificent, almost unique planet somewhere out in the suburbs of a pretty average galaxy. However, part of one species doesn’t quite get the message. They are embracing a very destructive way of thinking, greed for power (and money). We are not born with this.A very young child cannot differentiate between itself and its environment. If you cannot differentiate, you cannot be greedy.
So its learned behaviour and consequently can be changed or unlearned.
It is basically an acquired mental disease (amd) and effects a lot of people.Classifying it as a mental disease would be the first step.Education is the best way of tackling it. It is the root cause of most manmade destruction at all times. It is a bigger problem than any biological disease.

Part of our species, mainly in the West, have understood some of this and are acting accordingly. The Middle East,Far East and a lot of the rest have some way to go yet.

You see, it is all part of growing up as a species and some are ahead of the pack. However, regardless of who you are and where you live, you can make your own contribution by keeping greed out of your life as far as you can.And make no mistake, because of the interconnectedness of everything, everybody counts.Gaia is alive and well!
Now its up to us. Every one of us can choose, if we want to be part of the problem or part of the solution. The less greed you have in your life, the more you are part of the solution. It’s that easy !
I hope this gets a few people thinking,

i wish you a nice day

A pub conversation

Bruce and Macka sitting in a pub somewhere in Australia:

How`re you going Bruce ? fine Macka, yourself ? no worries mate. Like a coldie ?
( they get a couple of beers )

Macka : What do think about them Chinamen colonizing the world right now and our own total economical dependency on them?

Bruce : that bad , is it ?

Macka : well they own about 30% of Australia right now, and they are buying more every day,Mines, agricultural production area, real estate, they even got a phone company, Huawei, or something like that.

Bruce:And how many mines, farms. businesses,ph companies and real estate do we own in China ?

Macka: Zippo mate, nada, zilch, bugger all, And they even got the blueprint for our new intelligence HQ before it is even built. And did they come to Canberra and apologize fort hat?
Do pigs fly ? But our own foreign minister went to Jakarta to sort out a storm in a teacup. a spying affair that didn`t even happen on their watch !

Bruce : Strewth, are our own guys that bloody soft in the head ?

Macka: Looks like it. Andi t gets better.A while back a mining company in WA with 20% Chinese share holding put out some tenders : bottom line , it had to be done to chinese specifications,i.e. steel work to be done in China or the materials imported and then done to their specifications. They are certainly trying flexing their muscles.Another good one ist he Stern Hoo affair. He is a Chinaman working for an Australian mining company in their office in China. The Chinese wanted to buy more shares in that company but that was denied.Apart from that, the said company wanted to put up prices.
So the Chinese government grabbed Stern Hoo ( who had an Australian passport, but for the Chinese once Chinese, always Chinese ) and five of his co-directors , accused them of industrial espionage and sent them to the gulag for 5 years. And guess what ? The price didn`t go up and they got some more shares in a subsidiary company.
Australia- 0,China-1 . The list goes on and on.
Remember the 5 Uyghurs ? They are Moslems from a today Chinese province north of Tibet. Mao basically flooded that province with Chinese to integrate it into China. Anyway, 5 of them were picked up in Afghanistan and sent to Guantanamo bay on Cuba.On their release America ask who would like to take those people because they realized that they were harmless but China had said it would execute them if they returned there.
So Australia, amongst other countries, put up her hand. China’s reply was swift :you take those people, there will be consequences. And guess what? they are in limbo now,in Palau, an archipelago in the Pacific . China-2, Australia-0
The latest incident is China`s self declared air-defense-identification.zone ( ADIZ ) including the Senkaku islands in the south-china see. This is an interesting one and worthwhile watching. It may well lead to China testing Americas resolve and ability to support its allies and with that may have grave consequences for our own future.

Bruce: Strewth Macka, what a can of worms this is. So what`s the real face of China?

Macka: Tibet !! Just have a look at Tibet. The Chinese invaded it in the 50ties under the paltry excuse that one of the previous Tibetan kings had a chinese princes and therefore it was a Chinese province.
The real reason : to plunder it`s resources and use it`s space for their own population which is bursting their seams. Sounds familiar, doesn`t it ?
The result today : the power, economy ,businesses ,real estate, resources and everything else of value are in Chinese hands. The Tibetans are marginalized in their own country, disowned, impoverished and persecuted . They can clean the Chinese masters toilets for a pittance.

Bruce : You mean to say we`re headed the same way ?

Macka : Unless we change course, yes !

Bruce : But they can`t take away the land ,mines, and real estate to China

Macka: No, of course not.But they can and are controlling our economy. Now they have 30%. if they stop buying our resources for 3 months, the lights will go out in Australia. And with it our lifestyle, working conditions, welfare and health system, the whole bloody lot.In 10 years they will have about 50% of Australia or more and that’s when they will swing things their way, all the way.
We have already been blackmailed a few times as i pointed out, there is nothing to suggest this will not increase in the future . Expect more of the same. Does a Leopard change it`s spots ?
Last time the price for our resources dropped , we went to Beijing, they didn`t come to us to negotiate and we got the short end of the stick.

Bruce : But they are investing a lot of money in Australia and that creates a lot of jobs and wealth ?

Macka : in the short-term, yes. But also creates a great dependency and in the long run it only benefits them, because every dollar they invest here ultimately gives them more control and that is not in our interest.

Bruce: so what should we do ?

Macka: First of all we should see what China and Asia as such stand for and what we, that is the West, stand for and then make an informed decision which way we want to go and how to go about it and what consequences that will have.

Bruce: So what does the West stand for and why ?

Macka: It all started with the industrial revolution in Europe in the 19th century. At that point the political system was feudal. The nobility had the power, the head-honcho gave the orders and the rest obeyed. The 3 generation family provided all the social security that was needed. If someone got sick or incapacitated the rest oft he family looked after them.
All this changed with industrialization .It broke up the 3 generation family, people moved tot he city to find work and pay. But there was no more safety net. If the breadwinner was incapacitated or sick, the now small family was in strife. The social changes lead to at times great suffering. Another consequence oft he industrialization was WW I , which largely swept away the feudal governments of Europe to be replaced by proletarian dictatorships in many cases. The following big depression of he late 20ties and 30ties was a mayor reason for WW II, which got rid of most proletarian dictatorships, at least in the West. And only since about the 60ties do we have a consumer society with previously unheard of mass wealth ,education and personal decision-making. Never before had there been so much personal freedom and wealth.
And the service industry revolution oft he 70ties and 80ties set the woman free. Now everybody has access to education, paying jobs, can learn and live where they want, can marry who they like and are not tethered by tradition, family or economic circumstances. It took the better part of 200 years of human evolution to achieve this and cost the lives, blood sweat and tears of maybe 150 million people or more.
Western Europe hasn`t had a war for 68 years, which is unheard of in the last 3000 years of European or Asian history. We obviously learned something, so the price our forebears paid was not in vain. And the rewards, our current life style, is unmeasurable. Yes, there are some problems, there always are.But they are nothing compared to what the past had dished up. Our values have changed with changed circumstances and they re the pillar of our lives today It`s important to understand this.

Now let`s have a look at Asia and China in particular : they are, where we were about 200 years ago. Feudal and dictatorial governments, 3 generation family,no government safety net and graft and corruption being common place as well as widespread poverty. For every rich Chinese there are probably 50 000 poor ones who live in one room with the whole family and drive a pushbike and work in a factory for a pittance. This is the real face of China behind the smoke and mirrors.
They are industrializing now and are on the same historical journey we embarked on 200 years ago. However their mentality and thinking today is still feudal. Our values and thinking have changed due to changed circumstances and it took a long time to do that.We don`t keep colonies or slaves or political prisoners or have labor camps .People here have rights and many freedoms. At least some consideration for others is a corner-stone of our values and thinking. When you look at Tibet it is obvious that this kind of thinking and values haven`t exactly taken hold in to many places in Asia, let alone China. It`s more like dog eats dog .This is somewhat understandable given their circumstances, but certainly not to be embraced.Eventually they might wind up like us but its a long time coming,

However by letting a country like China take control of us by stealth (with the cheque book ) it is like shaking hands with the devil :he`ll rip your arm off and worse.

So the decision we `ll have to make is simple :
If we stay on our present course we will wind up like Tibet within 10 to 15 years. and with that lose everything our forebears acquired over the last 200 years at a tremendous expense : our lifestyle ,freedom, wealth and very existence.
On the other hand, if we want to stay a western country in the 21st century, we have to make a firm decision in that direction and then follow it up without wavering.

Remember the Titanic ? It sank because they gave the wrong command : rudder hard over and full steam reverse. It took to long for the ship to swing around because this way the forces were working against each other.Rudder hard over and full steam ahead would have saved her.We should do the same.

Bruce: Holy shit, Macka, you are scaring the pants of me. So what do you suggest ?

Macka : First of all, let`s have an informed and widespread discussion about this.Tell all your mates and see what they have to say about this. But make sure they understand the gravity of this. And then show them the way out of this situation.

Bruce: Which is ?

Macka : In a nutshell : serious industrialization !! self-sufficiency and sustainability instead of dependency on despots and dictatorial governments.

Bruce : But we don`t have an internal market to support this and it cost a lot of money.

Macka : yes and no.We used to make a lot more things here and they didn`t cost more than today. It`s easier and more profitable for a handful of people to manufacture overseas but for the majority it makes little difference.
But let`s have a look at the Canadian example. They gave European companies mining leases, but one condition was that they build a steel smelter and mill so that all the steel they needed was produced locally. We can do the same, give western companies mining rights and get them to produce all the steel we need locally for example, as well as some infrastructure like railways or roads.Western companies are bound by a legal system similar to our own. Have you ever tried to take somebody to court in Beijing or Tokyo or anywhere else in Asia ?
Next point, join the EU as an associated member. There are 450 million people with a high degree of industrialization who need resources. We can deliver them cheaper than they can produce them. A huge market and opportunity !!
They are closing down their nuclear power plants because of Fukushima, so they , as least partially, will go back to coal. And they have the greenest technology on the planet, so that is another option.
Entice european car makers to produce in Australia by giving them incentives to produce exports for Asia in Australia. Don`t throw any money at them , just give them favorable conditions, make it easy for them. We got nothing now , we can only gain. If it takes tariffs and protectionism so be it .Welfare starts at home.
So you see, if we want to, we can change course. And it would make all the difference.

Bruce : By Chrikie, you got a point there. I`ll have a yarn with my mates about all this.I can see your point .I guess, Charlie just ain`t gone surfing yet.

Macka : I think you got it. I got to go, but I`ll catch you next time.

Bruce : no worries, see ya.
